JONATHAN MILLER'S SURREAL ADAPTATION ON HOME VIDEO Available in the USA/Canada (right) and UK/Europe (left) This much sought after version of the Lewis Carrol story is now available on both DVD and VHS tape. Originally made for the British Broadcasting Company (the BBC) in 1966 and now released by the British Film Institute, it has been described as "truly original, slyly subversive, and perfectly captures the haunting, dreamlike, subtly menacing atmosphere of Carroll’s fantasy." Available in the UK and the USA. The extensive cast includes many luminaries from the television and film world of the time, including Wilfrid Brambell, Peter Cook, Peter Sellers, Alan Bennett, Sir Michael Redgrave, John Bird, Sir John Gielgud, Leo McKern and Malcolm Muggeridge. Anne-Marie Mallik plays Alice. You can read an extensive article on the Jonathan Miller film in our Film/TV section. The programme runs for 72 mins and the UK DVD includes extra material in the form of a commentary by director-producer Jonathan Miller, and a stills gallery and biography of Jonathan Miller. Also included on the DVD is footage from the eight-minute Alice in Wonderland from 1903 directed by Percy Stow, another rarity.
