Large volumes of green screen compositing were required for flying shots and minaturization sequences featuring the White King and Queen - played by Geoffrey Palmer and Penelope Wilton - as well as creative work on scenes such as Humpty Dumpty's downfall, Looking Glass Land, and Alice's garden.
The heroine's transitions through the mirror, and from square to square were handled in Flame, and 601's 3D department had fun in constructing a 3D Jabberwock!

While this version has been shown widely on TV around the world, dramatically it's deemed to be less than successful, although, as ever, it depends on your point of view. Some people love it, others don't. Watch it yourself and make up your own mind.

ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
Available on DVD from January 2005. With an excellent combination of live-action, animation, and special effects, it tells of Alice as she returns to Wonderland, stepping through a magical mirror and being transported from the real world into an enchanted one of talking insects, nonsensical questions, and reversals of logic. Beckinsale's Alice is a believable blend of curiosity, poise, and impertinence and her presence in nearly every scene carries the film.
You can pre-order the DVD by clicking it's picture (left). This is a region 1 disc (USA/Canada) but will play elsewhere if you have a region-free player or download a hack from the internet.
